Christmas is a time filled with the best songs and the best music and God is worthy of our using every means within our power to demonstrate his glory. That, in one phrase, is the whole purpose of Christmas: God’s demonstration of his own glory. Christmas is about God’s declaration of his own worth, value and magnificence. So what I want to do with you this week is to show you from the Bible how God’s demonstration of his own glory results in our joy and satisfaction in him. We are going to begin in Romans 11:33 and survey many passages in God’s word. There are six points you need to be aware of:
- You are not the center of the universe. You are not the point. God is not all about you. God is all about God, God is the center of the universe and God is the point of everything that was is and will be.
- Look at Romans 11:33-36: Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
- Acts 17:25: “The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.”
- Isaiah 46:9-10: “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’”
The sooner you come to grips with God’s God-centeredness, the sooner you will find and keep true joy. The more you think that God is centered upon you, the more likely you will be to starve spiritually. It is a liberating thing to understand that it’s not about you.
