The Glory of God in Predestination (September 28, 2011)

We saw yesterday that the future element of conformation to Christ was abundantly clear in the Scriptures, But the present element of conformation to Christ is equally clear in Scripture. Our salvation is future, but it is present too. God has not merely predestined us for something in the future and left us to ourselves in the meantime.

  1. 2 Corinthians 3:18 “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
  2. 2 Corinthians 4:16-17 “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,”
  3. Philippians 2:12-13 “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

Reality: We have been predestined to look like Jesus, both in the future and increasingly so as we head toward that future in our day to day living. Everything that comes our way has been ordained by God to conform us to the image of Christ. Why? What is the aim of making us more like Jesus? We will take a detailed look at that tomorrow.
