The Glory of God in Foreknowledge (September 20, 2011)

God is the Point

It is important that you understand the purpose of this message and every message from God’s Word. The purpose is to exalt God. The purpose is to glorify God. Salvation’s order and process and purpose magnify God, not man. My goal is not to tear humanity down and make you feel sad. My goal is to magnify God in his glory so that you know that you are not the center of the universe, but he is. My goal is to point to the majesty and sovereignty of God in salvation so that you will find your significance and worth and value and joy in God who saved you, though you have no worth and no value on your own. The goal is God. The sooner you understand that, the sooner these verses will become kindling to the fires of joy in your heart.

Have you, whatever your experience with church, ever felt as if the communication of the preaching or the church in general was that you were the center of the universe? Have you heard songs on the radio, maybe even “Christian” songs that seem to indicate that you are the center of the universe (like “Someone Worth Dying For”)? How does that idea compare to the biblical picture of salvation?
