What if I told you that your Bible was a set of perfect directions, the means by which God revealed himself to a fallen humanity and has offered you infinite joy and satisfaction in himself through his son Jesus? What if I told you that the Bible is not just about your finding the right road, but staying on it? What if I told you that the Scriptures contain everything you need for life and godliness? How closely would you follow those directions?
We will see, in the passage before us this week that David knows the secret to living the kind of life that God has intended for him to live, the kind of living that would cause God to say, “Here is a man after my own heart.” David shares the secret with us and then he shows us his passionate desire to live this kind of life and it is my prayer that as we go through this passage of Scripture that your passionate desire would be to know God and to become a people after his own heart.
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes!
With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth.
In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
(Psalm 119:9-16 ESV)
