Psalm 19, Part II (April 1, 2011)

[7] The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;  [8] the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;  [9] the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.  [10] More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.  [11] Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.  [12] Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults.  [13] Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.  [14] Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:7-14 ESV)

Reason #8: Scripture is Desirous.

1. Because of its value: More valuable than gold, sweeter than honey.

2. Do you long for Scripture? Haddon was born one week ago, Monday. I have to say, when an infant wants food, they want it NOW!

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. (1 Peter 2:1; 1 Peter 2:2-3 ESV)

Reason #9: Scripture Warns

1. Because it is wisdom: Scripture doesn’t just have wisdom for us. It is wisdom for us.

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.  With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!  I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:9-11 ESV)

Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10: 11-13 ESV)

Hope in the Psalms

Aren’t you glad that God warns us? Aren’t you glad that he keeps us, protects us and gives us wisdom in the Scriptures that will keep us from sin and help us walk in the direction of Godliness?
