You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11 ESV)
As you prepare your hearts for worship this Sunday, meditate on this verse at the end of our study of Psalm 16. We gather tomorrow to worship Jesus with our church family and we love Sunday because it is a reminder that all our hope is found in God and that fulness of joy is found in the presence of God and in him alone. We don’t want the gifts of God. We want God.
In the end the heart longs not for any of God’s good gifts, but for God Himself. To see Him and know Him and be in His presence is the soul’s final feast. Beyond this there is no quest. -John Piper
If God contains the fullness of all good things in himself like an inexhaustible fountain, nothing beyond him is to be sought by those who strike after the highest good and all the elements of happiness. -John Calvin
As we gather together tomorrow to worship God together, realize that authentic joy in God is a gift from God. Let us worship God with a heart of thanksgiving for his gift of joy in himself.
