The above article by Tim Townsend is worth the read, but at the end of the day, it is pretty predictable. The kid’s mom is an “evangelical” hoping that her son’s stardom will lead to other people coming to know and follow Jesus. This strategy is not new. The evangelical community does this with every installment of the Narnia series, and especially with Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.” (The one R rated movie that Christians were encouraged to see)

Don’t be a dumb sheep

The culture knows we will spend money on a movie if they slap a Jesus fish on the cover. Why do we do this? Because we are so afraid of man that we desperately want Jesus to be cool. I just want to warn you: You can’t make Jesus cool! And if you were going to try, Justin Bieber? Really?
