Psalm 8 (February 7, 2011)

Psalm 8

In order to understand our place in the created order, it is critical that we examine our relationship to the creator. The majesty of God has very important implications for our lives. Let’s look at each verse of this amazing declaration of the glorious name of God as foundation for understanding everything else.

[1,9] O LORD, (YAHWEH, the eternal, self-existent, absolute one, upon whom the entire universe depends) our Lord, (our ruler, King, master) how majestic (royal attributes of power on display) is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. (Merism, the idea in Hebrew poetry of bookends: heaven and earth  and everything in between! Psalm 19:1)

Hope in the Psalms

“There is no place in all the earth where God is not Yahweh -where he is not the absolute one. Everywhere everything depends absolutely on him. He has no viable competitors anywhere. He is above all things everywhere. He is the ground and goal of all things everywhere.” -John Piper

Revel in the knowledge of this God. Center your life on this God. Be overcome with this God.
